Downtown Toronto Condos Go Green with eco suite
Tridel, one of Canada's largest condo builders, has unveiled a fully functional environmentally friendly condo unit named the eco suite . The unit is part of Tridel's downtown Toronto condos sustained development building Element .
Element is one of Canada's first residential condo buildings to use the Enwave Deep Laker Cooling system . This system taps into a layer on water in Lake Ontario that remains at a constant temperature of 4°C all year long. The water is then used as a renewable source to cool the building.
The theme for the eco suite is renewable and sustainable. The unit is finished using enviro-friendly materials, appliances, and
furnishings. For example the wood used is local and certified as environmentally harvested. Finishing is done with water based products that do not release any off gases making it a healthy choice as well. This also goes for all of the furnishing which do not contain any chemicals.
Reuse and recycle is another strong theme. The dining room table is custom made solid walnut which was salvaged from another Tridel development site. The bed has also been reborn being made from recycled rubber.
Not to be left out from the three R's is reduce. The toilets are dual flush and the shower head and faucets are all low flow. Appliances are EngeryStar which use considerable less power. Lighting is provided using LED's reducing energy consumption by an estimated 8,000 kW annually.
The face of downtown Toronto condos is slowly changing for the better. This is most definitely a sign of things to come and soon will be the norm rather than a building oddity.
